"It'll pass"

they say love is just a feeling

then why is heartbreak so tangible

it hangs in the air between us

as the words come out of your mouth

oh your mouth 

the taste of your lips still lingers on mine

the shadow of all those kisses from last night

and i know it before you say it 

it's not me, it was never me

and i want to hug my heart tight

but the words come out a little too soon

"it'll pass", you say

and inside me something shatters

and the blow is just as hard 

as it would have been

had i not seen it coming

but i am almost relieved 

it hangs in the air between us, i can see it

it's crazy how palpable it had been last night 

but as you walk away now, I know

it will never pass
